Life with the Lions: 11/11/18

The Lions travelled short staffed on Sunday with six senior players unavailable for the Whitley Warriors game. Missing captain Elliott Perrin, Marc Levers, Alan Levers, Paul Stanley, Ben Wood, and import Jakub Klima meant a real uphill battle against a Warriors team full of confidence and having a good run of late. Luke Thomas returned to the captain’s role and led the Lions in what the Warriors might have thought to be easy night given Nottingham’s reduced bench strength. The Lions bench was shortened even more as Cameron Pywell took a knock in the first period that unfortunately saw him take no further part in the game. The Warriors with the stronger and larger bench strength took the first period 3-0 with the Lions playing a tighter second period that they lost only 1-0. The third period went in the Warriors favour but the Lions broke the shut out losing the period 2-1 and an overall 6-1 result to the home team. Netminder Miles Finney on his first outing had a stand out performance facing a massive 90 shots and a 93.33% save rate. Scorers: Ruskin Hughes 1+0, Harry Hopkins 0+1, and Joseph Gretton 0+1. A well deserved MOM for Miles Finney. Never an easy place to play but a gutsy road game for the Lions, but nevertheless another improved scoreline since the last time the two teams met back in October at the NIC
