Snakes are ladders to your hockey dreams
Last season, the Vipers shed their skin and restructured their female development programme. The result was a big increase in number of female players and a team that won promotion from the Women’s Premier League at the first time of asking.
Here’s what we have to offer aspiring female players:
TEAMS FOR ALL ABILITIES
U16s Girls – players of varying abilities including young, new starters looking to improve their skills and play some competitive matches against those of a similar age.
Division 1 North – third tier of senior female hockey in England; for ages 15 and upward. Varying abilities including relatively new starters.
Womens’ Elite League – English senior top tier. Experienced and talented players aged 15 and upwards looking to challenge themselves against the very best teams and players in England.
WE COMBINE FITNESS & FUN
Meet new people and have fun while learning and improving your game. Make friends across the country and maybe even the world. Last season our dynamic team featured players from Canada, USA and the Czech Republic. Keep fit – ice hockey is a demanding sport. The sky is the limit for fitness opportunities both on and off the ice.
ADDITIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Training sessions normally last around an hour each week and happen from August to May. Some female players also choose to register and train extra with junior Club teams which are mixed gender, age categorised, and mostly made up of boys. Last year, we had one girl making the most all the opportunities available to her – training 5 times a week and playing for 4 different teams! We are happy to support any females looking to take advantage of opportunities like this.
There is a one-off registration fee of £135. After that, our senior team fees are £45 per month from August to May (10 months in total). This includes training sessions, games and private coach hire to most away games. Female junior players registered with an affiliated Nottingham team pay standard junior fees, which are higher, but they can then access the female programme at little extra cost.
STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES
With a home called Hockey Town UK we are fortunate to call the National Ice Centre, Nottingham our home. A modern, twin ice pad venue and a supportive organisation that wants to see our Club thriving. On site catering facilities and comfortable surroundings for players, their families and friends.
CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY
As part of Nottingham Ice Hockey Club, the Vipers are backed by one of the largest amateur ice hockey Clubs in the country. Surplus membership fees are reinvested into ice hockey development. 2019 has seen Pixellot automated, filming technology installed by the Club. Operated by artificial intelligence, our games can be streamed live and recorded in TV-like footage without needing anyone to do it! We all learn to get better by looking at what we did well and not so well. We now have the ability to provide feedback from your coaches and also allow you to self-review by watching games back.
A SAFE PLACE TO PLAY
Our coaches and managers are trained and registered with the English Ice Hockey Association. The Club has policies and procedures to promote a safe environment for all, including the protection of children and young persons.
